This has been a very interesting season for golf gambling at the online sportsbook and if the final two Majors of the season show to be even half as intriguing as the Masters and the US Open Champion gambling then sports gambling enthusiasts do not want to miss out.
After Phil Mickelson’s amazing finish at Augusta and now Graeme McDowell’s magnificent finish on top of the US Open champion probabilities the only certainty in the golf gambling to date this in the Majors has been uncertainty.
The British Open is just around the corner and Players Championship in August and that leaves plenty of time for McDowell to relish his Open championship gambling victory – his 1st Major ever. With conditions progressively worsening as the final round played out, it was a terrific performance on a very tough course. The wind at Pebble Beach is notoriously fickle and on Sunday, the last day of the Open Championship probabilities tournament it reared its ugly head.
And while others in the field including the top two golfers (Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson) on the planet had trouble to close the tournament, McDowell was calm and collected as he played out the final 18 holes and entered the club house as the 2010 US Open champion gambling winner. McDowell won the US Open by one stroke. He became the 1st European to win the US Open since Tony Jacklin in 1970. Since Andy North in 1985, his ultimate round was the greatest score by a US Open champion.
The breeze presented little difficulty for McDowell, A native of the gusty north coast of Ireland, or at least he dealt with the challenge much much better than the rest of the golf gambling field. Scores ballooned on the final day of action and no golfer finished the golf gambling Major under par. McDowell came up best with a 4-round total score of Even Par after a final round of 74.
For all intents and purposes the final round didn’t deliver, though Sunday was set up for a very dramatic finish and crowning of the new US Open Championship gambling winner. In a group atop the leader board that contains heavyweights like Woods, Mickelson and Ernie Els, none of these big name players challenged and McDowell just went out and played more or less mistake free golf on his way to lifting the trophy.
Woods was positiioned to end 6 months of negative publicity over a broken personal life. But then he took himself out of contention with a 75 after he bogeyed five of his 1st 10 holes.
Els had a short share of the lead on the front nine but came undone along the coastal holes – including one stretch of bogey-double bogey-bogey – and never quite rebounded.
With another excellent chance to end a career of letdown at the US Open, Mickelson missed a chance to supplant Woods at No 1 on the planet and evened up for 4th with Woods.
Frenchman Greg Havret came out of nowhere to finish second at +1, Els third at +2 and Woods and Mickelson both finished +3 in the US Open champion probabilities contest.
